Czech president compares EU to Soviet Union

This is a very interesting article from the AP in which the current EU acting president, President Vaclav Klaus of the Czaech Republic, states his deep skepticism of the EU and its similarities to living under the cloak of the USSR. "Not so long ago, in our part of Europe we lived in a political system that permitted no alternatives and therefore also no parliamentary opposition," said Klaus. "We learned the bitter lesson that with no opposition, there is no freedom." The rest of the article is a good, quick read. The Czechs (and many others) were under the yolk of Soviet oppression for decades-- I think I would trust their opinions on this comparison.

Remember, the members of our current administration here in the US fawn over the EU. Obama et al have such a "world community" mentality, which trumps "America first" ideals, it should be no surprise that the first acts of his presidency have been labelled as 'socialist.' We should take such comments as from President Klaus seriously. An EU formation of any kind tied to America is a bad, bad thing...
