"It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds." -- Samuel Adams

Atlas Shrugged...today

I have just now ordered Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged to finally read it. Today more than ever I am compelled to finally read this 1100 pg. book which has been untouched by liberals for years. The scary truths which this fictional account wrote in are said to ring truer now than ever. And I am about to find out...

I also decided to Google "increase in Atlas Shrugged sales" and sure enough I found this. Looks like sales have tripled over the last seven weeks of 2009 from this same time period in 2008. That my friends speaks volumes! I will give daily updates when possible on my progress through the book and interesting and/or eerie similarities between the fiction on the page and the reality of our current times.

Jindal/Palin 2012!!!

Here is the transcript of Gov. Bobby Jindal's (LA) response to Obama's mock 'State of the Union' address from last night. He said exactly what needed to be said in a calm, straight-forward, respectable fashion and we should applaud that. We should also pray to God and start urging our party leaders for Gov. Jindal to be at the head of the ticket for the 2012 election.

-----------------

Tonight, we witnessed a great moment in the history of our Republic. In the very chamber where Congress once voted to abolish slavery, our first African-American president stepped forward to address the state of our union. With his speech tonight, the president completed a redemptive journey that took our nation from Independence Hall to Gettysburg to the lunch counter and now, finally, the Oval Office.

Regardless of party, all Americans are moved by the president's personal story -- the son of an American mother and a Kenyan father, who grew up to become leader of the free world. Like the president's father, my own parents came to this country from a distant land. When they arrived in Baton Rouge, my mother was already 4-½-months pregnant. I was what folks in the insurance industry now call a "pre-existing condition." To find work, my dad picked up the yellow pages and started calling local businesses. Even after landing a job, he could still not afford to pay for my delivery, so he worked out an installment plan with the doctor. Fortunately for me, he never missed a payment.

As I grew up, my mom and dad taught me the values that attracted them to this country, and they instilled in me an immigrant's wonder at the greatness of America. As a child, I remember going to the grocery store with my dad. Growing up in India, he had seen extreme poverty. And as we walked through the aisles, looking at the endless variety on the shelves, he would tell me: "Bobby, Americans can do anything." I still believe that to this day: Americans can do anything. When we pull together, there is no challenge we can't overcome.

As the president made clear this evening, we are now in a time of challenge. Many of you listening tonight have lost jobs. Others have seen your college and retirement savings dwindle. Many of you are worried about losing your health care and your homes. And you are looking to your elected leaders in Washington for solutions.

Republicans are ready to work with the new president to provide those solutions. Here in my state of Louisiana, we don't care what party you belong to, if you have good ideas to make life better for our people. We need more of that attitude from both Democrats and Republicans in our nation's capital. All of us want our economy to recover and our nation to prosper. So where we agree, Republicans must be the president's strongest partners. And where we disagree, Republicans have a responsibility to be candid and offer better ideas for a path forward.
Today in Washington, some are promising that government will rescue us from the economic storms raging all around us.

Those of us who lived through Hurricane Katrina -- we have our doubts.

Let me tell you a story.

During Katrina, I visited Sheriff Harry Lee, a Democrat and a good friend of mine. When I walked into his makeshift office, I'd never seen him so angry. He was yelling into the phone: "Well, I'm the Sheriff and if you don't like it you can come and arrest me!" I asked him: "Sheriff, what's got you so mad?" He told me that he had put out a call for volunteers to come with their boats to rescue people who were trapped on their rooftops by the floodwaters. The boats were all lined up ready to go, when some bureaucrat showed up and told them they couldn't go out on the water unless they had proof of insurance and registration. I told him, "Sheriff, that's ridiculous." And before I knew it, he was yelling into the phone: "Congressman Jindal is here, and he says you can come and arrest him too!" Harry just told the boaters to ignore the bureaucrats and go start rescuing people.
There is a lesson in this experience: The strength of America is not found in our government. It is found in the compassionate hearts and the enterprising spirit of our citizens. We are grateful for the support we have received from across the nation for the ongoing recovery efforts. This spirit got Louisiana through the hurricanes and this spirit will get our nation through the storms we face today.
To solve our current problems, Washington must lead. But the way to lead is not to raise taxes and not to just put more money and power in hands of Washington politicians. The way to lead is by empowering you, the American people. Because we believe that Americans can do anything.

That is why Republicans put forward plans to create jobs by lowering income tax rates for working families, cutting taxes for small businesses, strengthening incentives for businesses to invest in new equipment and hire new workers, and stabilizing home values by creating a new tax credit for home-buyers. These plans would cost less and create more jobs.

But Democratic leaders in Congress -- they rejected this approach. Instead of trusting us to make wise decisions with our own money, they passed the largest government spending bill in history, with a price tag of more than $1 trillion with interest. While some of the projects in the bill make sense, their legislation is larded with wasteful spending. It includes $300 million to buy new cars for the government, $8 billion for high-speed rail projects, such as a "magnetic levitation" line from Las Vegas to Disneyland, and $140 million for something called "volcano monitoring." Instead of monitoring volcanoes, what Congress should be monitoring is the eruption of spending in Washington, D.C.
Democratic leaders say their legislation will grow the economy. What it will do is grow the government, increase our taxes down the line, and saddle future generations with debt. Who among us would ask our children for a loan, so we could spend money we do not have, on things we do not need? That is precisely what the Democrats in Congress just did. It's irresponsible. And it's no way to strengthen our economy, create jobs, or build a prosperous future for our children.

In Louisiana, we took a different approach. Since I became governor, we cut more than 250 earmarks from our state budget. To create jobs for our citizens, we cut taxes six times -- including the largest income tax cut in the history of our state. We passed those tax cuts with bipartisan majorities. Republicans and Democrats put aside their differences -- we worked together to make sure our people could keep more of what they earn. If it can be done in Baton Rouge, surely it can be done in Washington, D.C.

To strengthen our economy, we need urgent action to keep energy prices down. All of us remember what it felt like to pay $4 at the pump and unless we act now, those prices will return. To stop that from happening, we need to increase conservation, increase energy efficiency, increase the use of alternative and renewable fuels, increase our use of nuclear power, and increase drilling for oil and gas here at home. We believe that Americans can do anything and if we unleash the innovative spirit of our citizens, we can achieve energy independence.
To strengthen our economy, we also need to address the crisis in health care. Republicans believe in a simple principle: No American should have to worry about losing their health coverage -- period. We stand for universal access to affordable health care coverage. What we oppose is universal government-run health care. Health care decisions should be made by doctors and patients, not by government bureaucrats. We believe Americans can do anything, and if we put aside partisan politics and work together, we can make our system of private medicine affordable and accessible for every one of our citizens.

To strengthen our economy, we also need to make sure every child in America gets the best possible education. After Katrina, we reinvented the New Orleans school system, opening dozens of new charter schools, and creating a new scholarship program that is giving parents the chance to send their children to private or parochial schools of their choice. We believe that, with the proper education, the children of America can do anything. And it shouldn't take a devastating storm to bring this kind of innovation to education in our country.

To strengthen our economy, we must promote confidence in America by ensuring ours is the most ethical and transparent system in the world. In my home state, there used to be saying: At any given time, half of Louisiana was said to be half under water, and the other half is under indictment. No one says that anymore. Last year, we passed some of the strongest ethics laws in the nation and today, Louisiana has turned her back on the corruption of the past. We need to bring transparency to Washington, D.C., so we can rid our Capitol of corruption and ensure we never see the passage of another trillion dollar spending bill that Congress has not even read and the American people haven't even seen.

As we take these steps, we must remember for all our troubles at home, dangerous enemies still seek our destruction. Now is no time to dismantle the defenses that have protected this country for hundreds of years, or make deep cuts in funding for our troops. America's fighting men and women can do anything. If we give them the resources they need, they will stay on the offensive, defeat our enemies, and protect us from harm.

In all these areas, Republicans want to work with President Obama. We appreciate his message of hope, but sometimes it seems we look for hope in different places. Democratic leaders in Washington -- they place their hope in the federal government. We place our hope in you, the American people. In the end, it comes down to an honest and fundamental disagreement about the proper role of government. We oppose the National Democratic view that says the way to strengthen our country is to increase dependence on government. We believe the way to strengthen our country is to restrain spending in Washington, to empower individuals and small businesses to grow our economy and to create jobs.

In recent years, these distinctions in philosophy became less clear -- our party got away from its principles. You elected Republicans to champion limited government, fiscal discipline and personal responsibility. Instead, Republicans went along with earmarks and big government spending in Washington. Republicans lost your trust -- and rightly so.

Tonight, on behalf of our leaders in Congress and my fellow Republican governors, I say this: Our party is determined to regain your trust. We will do so by standing up for the principles that we share, the principles you elected us to fight for, the principles that built this into the greatest, most prosperous country on earth.
You know, a few weeks ago, the president warned that our nation is facing a crisis that he said "we may not be able to reverse." Our troubles are real, to be sure. But don't let anyone tell you that we cannot recover. Don't let anyone tell you that America's best days are behind her. This is the nation that cast off the scourge of slavery, overcame the Great Depression, prevailed in two World Wars, won the struggle for civil rights, defeated the Soviet menace, and responded with determined courage to the attacks of September 11, 2001. The American spirit has triumphed over almost every form of adversity known to man, and the American spirit will triumph again.

We can have confidence in our future, because, amid all of today's challenges, we also count many blessings: We have the most innovative citizens, the most abundant resources, the most resilient economy, the most powerful military, and the freest political system in the history of the world. My fellow citizens, never forget: We are Americans. And like my dad said years ago, Americans can do anything.

Thank you for listening. God bless you. God bless Louisiana. And God bless America.

Nationwide Chicago Tea Party!

http://www.nationwidechicagoteaparty.com/

If you live near Chicago, ATTEND!!!! This is how it began over 200 years ago and let us through 'Tea Parties' yet again to show our government that we will not live under their current ways any longer!

WSJ Op Ed: In Obama We Trust (not!)

This is the best article I have read re: Obama's clear disillusionment of what makes America great- the entrepreneurs and small-business owners. His socialism shines through in this article as the author discussions Obama's call for government being the ONLY way out of this economic slump.

FINALLY, someone says it. It's not Hannity or Rush on the airwaves ranting. It is a very calm, smart article getting to what we all fear- the rise of socialism and the downfall of capitalism (and the American society of the last 200 years). Of course, it is just an op ed. And it is in the Wall Street Journal...not the New York Times or Washington Post. But hey, hopefully buyer's remorse truly is setting in!!!

Stocks Recoup a Bit...

It's amazing. The stocks actually recouped a bit of their previous loses (yesterday being the worst since 1997) after Fed Reserve Chair Ben Bernanke talked down the idea floating around that the government would nationalize top lenders, such as Citigroup or BofA. Wow. The markets react AGAINST socialistm and react FOR capitalism?!?! Who could have guessed it!

Now we will see how the reaction to Obama's "address to Congress" plays out tomorrow when trading opens... (Remember, it's too soon for an official State of the Union Address but it's Obama- come on, he can do whatever he wants, right?!)

My guess is not as well as today's...!

Chart of Money Printing per the Federal Reserve

This chart speaks volumes. Someone needs to find a concrete reason to impeach Obama because we should not have to suffer as a nation through the next 4 years. People said "Impeach Bush" all the time but Obama's actions in the first 30 days have been more dangerous to the longevity of this country than any made in the last 8 years...

Bumper Sticker of the Year!!!

Need I say more?!?!

Czech president compares EU to Soviet Union

This is a very interesting article from the AP in which the current EU acting president, President Vaclav Klaus of the Czaech Republic, states his deep skepticism of the EU and its similarities to living under the cloak of the USSR. "Not so long ago, in our part of Europe we lived in a political system that permitted no alternatives and therefore also no parliamentary opposition," said Klaus. "We learned the bitter lesson that with no opposition, there is no freedom." The rest of the article is a good, quick read. The Czechs (and many others) were under the yolk of Soviet oppression for decades-- I think I would trust their opinions on this comparison.

Remember, the members of our current administration here in the US fawn over the EU. Obama et al have such a "world community" mentality, which trumps "America first" ideals, it should be no surprise that the first acts of his presidency have been labelled as 'socialist.' We should take such comments as from President Klaus seriously. An EU formation of any kind tied to America is a bad, bad thing...

UPDATE: "No Stimlus Money, Thank You"...

So here it comes. Senator Jim Clyburn (D) of South Carolina has said that if GOP governors refuse to accept the stimulus money it will be a 'slap in the face' to black Americans. (Are you serious?!?!) Clyburn cites this as an example of why the stimulus plan has the provision in it for the State legislatures can accept the money if the executive declines it. "Clyburn's spokeswoman later said he didn't mean that he thought those governors were racially motivated, but rejecting it would hurt large black populations in their states."

This really is becoming a "new day" in America. And I do NOT mean that positively. These kinds of remarks made by those elected to represent the whole of America is a step backwards from the works of MLK, Jr. and others for EQUALITY. What a shame but definitely (and sadly) not a shocker.

College students' opinions of the Spendulus Plan!

Here are the results, as of this morning, of the poll they have posted on the Wright State University email server website. I just find it interesting that the results definitely do not fit the pre-conceived notion that all college students are ultra-liberal.

What do you think of the stimulus bill?

It won't work
51.0%

It should work
20.6%

What stimulus?
11.8%

It's too big
10.9%

It's too small
5.8%

Total votes: 1868

And when added up those which are seemingly upset with the stimulus (i.e., 'It won't work'; 'What stimulus?'; and 'It's too big') you get 73.7% of the 1868 voters. That is even MORE telling then the 50.9% that flat out say NO...Interesting!

Watch out bumper sticker crowd!

You better watch what your bumper stickers say in regards to your dislike of Obama. The article below I found on Foxnews.com and this is just the beginning folks...

Report: Oklahoma City Police Admit Mistake in Pulling Over Man With Anti-Obama Sign
According to The Oklahoman newspaper, an Oklahoma City police officer pulled over a man last week because he had in his car a sign that said, "Abort Obama, not the unborn."
FOXNews.com
Thursday, February 19, 2009

The Oklahoma City Police Department admits one of its officers made a mistake in pulling over a man last week for carrying an anti-President Obama sign in his car.

According to The Oklahoman newspaper, an officer pulled over Chip Harrison last week because he had in his car a sign that said, "Abort Obama, not the unborn."

The officer confiscated the sign and handed Harrison a slip telling him he was under investigation, even though Harrison argued that the sign only meant he wanted Obama removed from office.

The officer thought Harrison was threatening to kill the president, according to the article. But the department later explained that the officer misinterpreted the sign.

That didn't stop Harrison from getting a visit from the Secret Service. They interviewed him at his house and determined he was not a threat to the president, according to the report.

Photos of the Day

These come from Sticker Patch blog which I heard of thanks to the wonderful Michelle Malkin. They are photos of protestors in AZ when Obama came there to speak yesterday about the stimulus. We ALL need to band together and follow in these steps. Speaking out and making our voices heard is exactly why my dad and I started this blog!!!

Surest Way To Destruction

"Yes, we did produce a near perfect Republic. But will they keep it, or will they, in the enjoyment of plenty, loose the memory of freedom? Material abundance without character is the surest way to destruction." --- Thomas Jefferson

It is interesting and prophetic that over 200 years ago one of our founding fathers made just such a statement. Is there a chance that he knew something that we as a nation have forgotten, have we lost our national character in our over abundant modern times? I believe the answer to that question has to be a resounding YES! Everyday that we keep bailing out failed institutions and allowing our government to take control of yet another faucet of the private sector we stand teetering on the abyss of throwing our great Republic away for the false utopia of Socialism.

If you choose to accept that your government needs to be the source of of your lively hood and the provider of what you need than you have already lost your liberty and freedom. America has only to look at the failed welfare system to see government involvement is not the answer. Generation upon generation has stayed trapped in that cycle and our government has not at all tried to end it. But, why should our government, they have a captive audience who year after year votes in the same socialistic minded officials. This same captive audience knows if they vote Democrat than they will still get all for doing nothing. Now we see the financial markets, auto makers, the housing market, and everyday someone else with their hand out. This is the means to the end, make all faucets of our society dependent on the government for survival and you have total control.

If we are not careful and not stop this slide into the socialist abyss than we are condemning our children and future generations to a life of no choice. They will not have the chance to succeed or fail, they will never be able to choose to improve their lives and feel the gratification of doing it on their own, the government will make those decisions for everyone.

There was a reason for the statement "Give me Liberty or give me Death", life without freedom, life without the liberties to choose your path is death; death of the mind, death of the soul and at the end...death of humanity itself.

Let us save this Republic and not allow freedom to only become a memory!

Recovery.gov - Transparency?!?!

If you have not already heard about and/or seen the website created by Team Obama regarding the transparency of the stimulus package, well here is your chance: http://www.recovery.gov/.

This website is nothing more than a pre-2012 campaign site so to make Obama's stupendously ignorant, socialist move with this stimulus (and more to come...) 'transparent' to the American people. Really? How should we be able to trust, better yet, WHY should we be able to trust that this is a truly accurate, 'transparent' account of where OUR tax dollars are/are not going?? Give me a break.

It is just in its infancy, but it will be interesting to see what information or lackthereof will be found on this Team Obama site.

UPDATE: Housing Rescue Plan

The (soon coming) Housing Bailout plan is set at $275 billion. The bad feeling I have had in the pit of my stomach since November 4, 2008 is getting worse & worse...

This plan, as Obama laid it out in Phoenix, AZ will help up to 9 million struggling homeowners from losing their homes. Homes, in the first place, that they should have never, EVER been able to 'purchase'- and I use that word loosely. The plan will help them refinance their loans with none other than Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac if they have lost value/equity in their homes. Surprised? Nope. "[T]he government plans to spend $75 billion to encourage lenders to modify loan terms for people at risk of foreclosure or already in foreclosure proceedings. Lenders and the government would jointly lower monthly payments to 31% of homeowners' income." (...that is $75B of the $275B plan) But as this article from the WSJ points out, this is still going to leave many millions who are not able to refinance through Mae or Mac if they still owe much, much more than the home is currently worth. "Mr. Obama said the plan won't help everyone, including investors and those already deep in trouble. He nodded to a potential backlash from diligent homeowners who have been making their payments, suggesting they'd benefit from stable neighborhoods with fewer vacant houses."

WOW! This truly is CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN. Give me a break...

"No Stimulus Money, Thank You" for some GOP Governors

Some GOP Governors have reportedly been tossing around the notion to stand up for their conservative principles and NOT accept the stimulus money just passed by Congress. The players, to not much surprise, include: Bobby Jindal (Louisiana); Sarah Palin (Alaska); Rick Perry (Texas); Mark Sanford (South Carolina); Haley Barbour (Mississippi); and Butch Otter (Idaho).

Of course, this is not going unnoticed by Democrats in Congress. Some state that this is just a plow for these GOP governors to set themselves up for the 2012 nomination. No, it's principles they stand on...something Democrats have a hard time conceptualizing. The stimulus bill also includes language that allows the state legislature the power to overrule the executive branch's decision to accept/not accept funding. What a crock!!!

We will just have to see what happens once the money starts to be handed out...

Housing Rescue Plan and Section 8...

Obama announced today a plan to "rescue" homeowners from potentially losing their homes. This, in a nut shell, will cost the tax payers another $50 billion when passed. This also will give bankruptcy judges the power to reduce the amount owned on a mortgage. That, as Neal Boortz puts it, is PURE THEFT. This is going to do nothing but cause an even bigger problem with banks and loans. Good job Barry O!

Also, as heard on Boortz, it seems inevitable that the government is going to start buying up a lot of middle-income housing due to the current woes. With that, these houses have the potential to become Section 8 housing, which is to say welfare houses who's rent is paid in bulk by the tax payers. Believe you me, if these start popping up in the neighborhoods we live in, we all better get the heck out. Property values are linked to such things and we all know what that would do to OUR properties and investments- in the toilet!

Revisiting Washington's Farewell Address

I am currently reading the wonderful biography by Ron Chernow, simply titled Alexander Hamilton. The ideas that he fully endorsed and, through his relationship with George Washington, was able to invoke into action need to be revisited today. But that is for another posting soon to come. Today's will look at a quote from Washington's Farewell Address, as well as some key ideas from the address that Chernow summarizes (full address available here):

“[F]actions can become ‘potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government’” – taken from George Washington’s Farewell Address, ghostwritten by Alexander Hamilton

· There are dangers with domestic factions, which can allow advancement for corrupt men
· Urging for a vigorous central government to protect liberty
· Stressed public credit and the necessity to control deficits and debts
· Maintaining the sacred duty of obeying the Constitution

If we only came back to these and many other of our Founding Father's ideas and meanings behind the formative years of our nation, we would be in a much different place (except for Jefferson and Madison, they epitomize the foundation of the current Democratic party). Let us hope that these lessons can be spread through the populus before both the 2010 and 2012 elections are upon us...

Al Qaeda and Our Economy

Please read this article. It is quite striking. And more so than anything is that this is first time in print since Obama took office that someone has come out and said such things. And it comes out of Los Angeles, California of all places, even more striking.

Watch out for Al Qaeda: It wants to target America's economy, and it wants to prove it can defeat us.
By Marc A. Thiessen February 15, 2009 - LA Times

A brief summary: The economic turmoil currently facing our nation is just what the terrorist ordered. Al Qaeda is basking at the events unfolding in America under the helm of the current administration. As Obama and the Congressional Democrats try & un-do many of Bush's post-9/11 security implementations, the likelihood for an even more catastrophic terrorist attack(s) seems inevitable.

Picture of the Day

This image was taken at a Borders bookstore in Dallas, TX. WND contacted Borders but they said it was not intended to imply what clearly it looks like. Obamania is becoming a radical religion people. And this "Freudian slip" says it all!

GovTrack helps keep an eye on Congress

http://www.govtrack.us/

This website is dedicated to everyday, hard-working Americans who's civic duty it is to keep at least one eye on Congress at all times. Now more than ever a site such as this is necessary and crucially important. You can set up a customized 'tracker' for email alerts about specific subjects areas that most interest you. You can even track items by members of Congress or committees.

An interesting 'track' to start off this first positing:

Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009
H.R. 45:111st Congress 2009-2010

To provide for the implementation of a system of licensing for purchasers of certain firearms and for a record of sale system for those firearms, and for other purposes.
